The village of Crabtree is due to be demilished. Plans for a
new motorway mean that the old houses on the village green will
have to go. Only Norman, the mediaeval farmhouse, is protected
y his preservation order. Elizabeth, the sixteenth century manor,
George, the Georgian old vicarage, and Victor and Victoria,
the semi-detached twin villas, are not so lucky. Each house
tells its own history as they fight for survival. Errol Le Cain's
rich illustrations make these 'people houses' truly memorable. |
