Synopsis (taken from front flap)
The story of The Child in the Bamboo Grove is a favourite in Japan. It tells how a lonely old bamboo cutter found a tiny child inside a bamboo reed; how she grew up to be a young woman of exceptional beauty; how she disposed of her tiresome suitors by setting them impossible tasks: and how at last she left the earth to return to her true home.
